Winds of Change

You can feel it in the air. The coolness of the offshore breezes, the arrival of yellow school buses and waiting anxious/happy parents and the cadence of a marching band all announce a change of season.

In my painting I seem to change my palette without noticing the subtle shift. The bright greens of summer leaves to autumn golds. The light cerulean blues of shore waters deepen to the paynes grey of the reflected, quickly darkening skies. The relaxed outdoor art shows with picnic like umbrellas and coolers are exchanged for the requisite cracker and cheese platter and wine within the gallery walls. I welcome the change and all the paintings yet to be with a look back at the shore and a walk toward the mountains.
